Vegetable tanning is an ancient technique that dates back to 2000 years ago and developed in medieval Tuscany. The leather is placed in a barrel with water containing natural tannins from plants and trees. To obtain a softer and more flexible leather, the modern tanning technique requires the barrels to rotate and beat for about 48 hours.
