When we are talking about style, elegance and femininity, Chanel brand linkage comes naturally. Coco Chanel is, without any doubt, the most iconic fashion designer of the 20th century, who has revolutionized the female image as well as the whole world of fashion, thanks to her talent to create garments of the classic and timeless design that continues to be relevant even today in 2016.
Gabrielle Bonheure Chanel opened her first boutique in Paris in 1909. Her straw hats, decorated with satin flowers and feathers, in no time conquered the hearts of high-class Parisians, accustomed to the pompous Pompadour style from the French Belle Époque.

After her initial success, Coco Chanel continued creating and bringing to life marvelous examples of clothes and accessories, following the direction towards simplicity and utility. A modern, active and dynamic woman could no longer be a prisoner of clothes, consisting of corsets and hoop-skirts. Thus, a new concept of elegance was born, which turned the old understanding of a female image upside down.

Along with suits, elegant trousers and a classic tight little black dress, which continue to be an integral part of a woman’s wardrobe even today, Chanel created timeless accessories, such as: a well-known 2.55 bag – it is a true icon, which stays alive over the years. The name comes from its creation date – February 1955.

It took Coco Chanel 25 years to bring her idea to life. The idea was that the bag should be elegant and capacious at the same time and, what’s more important, should leave hands free. The very first models of the bag were made of silk and jersey, just as Chanel’s suits. The main feature of 2.55 was a diamond shaped stitching (with matelassè effect) and a gold-plated handle-chain.

This iconic accessory never ceased to be an object of desire for every fashionmonger. And it is no mere chance that Karl Lagerfeld (the creative director of Chanel fashion house since 1983) revised the bag’s design. A new interpretation of the famous bag that appeared in the 80s (Classic Flap and Chanel 2.88) consisted of the double crossed letter C – the fashion house logotype, of a new clasp and a leather strip, inserted into the handle-chain.

In year 2005, on the occasion of the semicentenary of 2.55, Lagerfeld celebrated the anniversary of this immortal accessory by offering the classic model created by Coco Chanel, which he called Chanel 2.55 Reissue.

Another accessory that never goes out of fashion, thanks to its classic and at the same time modern style –the famous two-tone shoes, also called “new Cinderella shoes”. Designed by Coco Chanel in the 60s of the 20th century, these sandals combine the elegance of classic décolleté-heeled shoes and distinctive toe cap of contrasting colors. When creating her masterpiece, Chanel was inspired by old models of men’s shoes of the XVIII century.

In the era when monochrome shoe models had securely settled in the fashion canon, Chanel’s design was a revolutionary one.

Today, Bicolor shoes continue to be the signature shoe models of the famous brand; Karl Lagerfeld adds such models to every collection, making restyling that turns them into more relevant fashion trends.

Even for Autumn-Winter 2015 fashion show, the designer combines the Two-tone shoes with new images, presenting various color and material options and even more – a new fashionable high-heeled design.

As Coco Chanel used to say: “Fashion passes off, but style remains”.
